Still Learning To See

Travelling opens spaces

On a recent trip to Michigan to visit our families I very much enjoyed walking with my sister in a large field they have wilded from the corn field it has been for years. What a delight to see so many different kinds of plants, many in flower, and to watch the wind to sweep the insects and birds along as it moved over the land.

Traveling often helps me get unstuck from the habits I have adopted. In Michigan I realized how here my walks in Montpelier are often on sidewalks or in the woods and pledged to take time to walk in our local fields and grasslands. The wide open spaces of the North Branch Nature Center are so fulfilling.

One of the creatures I encountered was a Monarch larvae getting ready for both a journey into a whole new body as well as a trip to Mexico! This world we live in is so much more than the horrifying headlines I read every day.
