Still Learning To See

Patterns in stones and water

I often enjoy seeing the patterns in the natural world. These are not always uniform or predictable. What sometimes amazes me most, when looking through the viewfinder of my camera, is seeing the inherent “meaning” of the scene disappear. In its place I see different relationships of light, color, shape and space, abstracted and without linkage to their true nature.

Often, when I show my photographs in public, I’m greeted with “Nice. What is it?” While it can be irritating to hear this again and again, I also have to laugh at the human animal’s need to know. I know I am the same way!

Allow the stones and water to disappear and enjoy whatever remains to be seen!
