Still Learning To See

NOT ice today

Enough of ice, at least for a bit.

Yesterday by the river my eye was drawn to a small stand of Red Osier (Cornus sericea) which seemed brighter. Perhaps it was the late afternoon light or my impatience to move on toward Spring. Or, I suspect, it is in fact another of the subtle signs the sun is higher, the days longer and warmer and that soon this not-so-cold, icy Winter will be over.

Patience, patience. But today I’ll leave behind the silver and grays of ice and enjoy these colors.

Red Osier (Cornus sericea) against snow. What a lovely sight!

The buds of Big-toothed Aspen (Populus grandidentata) gleam and swell in the February light.
