I woke early today to a few inches of sticky new snow all over the trees and then an amazing sunrise. As I was walking it quickly became clear where I needed to be to catch the early light as it developed. I headed in the direction of a high hill overlooking the city where the mountains form a stunning background.
When I arrived, the light was good. Honestly, I’d seen better but that was another morning, not this one. I was considering leaving but decided to wait a few more minutes and, voila, up popped the sun and the whole scene changed, some for the worse (harsh light) and some for the better (reds/pinks).
Clearly I can’t always be in the “right” place, but I can use the knowledge I have and aim in a direction or time/space. The story of Galen Rowell running to have the rainbow show up right over the top of Potala Palace is still an inspiration. Once I’m where I am, if my eyes are open, I have a chance!

I love the story of Galen Rowell’s run to get the Potala Palace rainbow–I’d seen his work before, but hadn’t heard that story. You’re really inspiring me to pay better attention to both the large and small parts of nature. Thanks!
