Still Learning To See

Late gold

jrs-05258When the Tamaracks turn gold, it is clear to all around here that snow is on the way. The leaves of this “deciduous conifer” are among the last shades of gold on the hillsides and the sight is spectacular, even if short-lived.

When I see the gold on the edge of a distant wetland, I also always think of my old friend, a forester from Newfoundland who called them “hackmatack” trees.
