This has been a week seemingly of change unlike anything we’ve seen, perhaps ever. And it is important to remember that even in the horror of these many unknown changes, some things do not change. Among them, mountains and people.

The tallest mountain in North America has been known as Denali for thousands of years by the people who see it rise from the horizon. I was very fortunate to see this mountain, usually hidden by clouds, on 8 of 10 days I was in Alaska. It is something I’ll never forget and, after that, now always know as Denali

When I first looked out over the horizon in the direction of Denali, I did not see it; that is, not until I lifted my head and looked up! It exists so far above the horizon I had simply missed seeing it. After that, there was no missing it but it was always shocking to see the reality of this 20,000 foot mountain. Below is another view, through a telephoto lens showing only the lower 1/3 of the mountain!

Denali. It will be here long after Trump tries to rename it. As will the goodness in the hearts of many of my fellow human beings. Honestly, there is not much more to say.
Be in the now and listen, but don’t forget to lift our eyes and look back and beyond.
Hope you are faring well in Vermont. You are not too far from Canada if our country “goes south”. I find no solace in hearing people who voted poorly complaining about the price of their medications going up 😔 as if there’s no correlation better their votes and the subsequent changes. 🫨
John, some beautiful images, thank you.
Not really sure how to respond in an effective way to the changes as of late. It’s continues to be mind-boggling that people actually want this. I guess I need to get over that first, and then figure out how to help bring about change in 2026.
Thank goodness for long walks in the woods.
