Despite still deep snow and temperatures below 0F this morning, Spring is undeniably on the way, even if slowly. There are many sure signs and more each day.
One indication is my having made my annual trek into the garden through the snow to cut branches of Forsythia. Mine is an urge nearly as strong as the Cardinal’s need to sing from high in the trees. This time of year we all seem to crave green! Liz told me the owner of the shop where she buys yarn, The Knitting Studio said her sales of green yarn peak this time of year!
Another sure sign is the enjoyment of watching the Forsythia “sticks,” as Liz calls them, begin to swell and green up in a few days and then burst into flower. Of course it will be another month or more before they bloom out-of-doors but having these few flowers inside keeps the process in context.
Lovely – I never had any luck forcing branches indoors (back when we had flowering bushes), so I love this photos all the more. Especially beautiful dof on the last one
It won’t be long now!
