This has been a remarkable spring in the garden. The weather ranged from bitter cold to drought to soaking wet to hot with violent storms thrown in, all in the space of two weeks. I’m not sure how the birds have fared—catbirds and hummers among others but no wrens—thought the spring garden has done well.
The sour cherry trees were almost in full bloom on the night of May 15 when temperatures dropped into the low 20s. They were covered in ice the next morning after I ran a spray of water on them all night long. While not a bumper crop, there was a decent set of fruit regardless!
A day later things warmed up and dried out and the bare ground began to fill with shades of green. The contrast in the front garden over these two weeks is impressive!
And the richness of textures and colors and scents and life has been a delight. I am fortunate to have the time to simple be in this amazing space day after day enjoying whatever comes my way. Here are a few, and more will follow over the next several days.
