Still Learning To See

Finalist #22, Red!

As Rob and I walked today in the woods high above Worcester, I noticed how monochromatic things were: brown leaves, a few dark green ferns and the muted colors of tree bark, ledge and lichens. Not much snow yet. I find the simple palette of this time of year almost a relief after the explosion of color in the fall.

One of the thrills of the fall is seeing the mix of colors. Several years ago I found this bright red leaf in a stream right below an absolutely remarkable ripple. A delightful image to see again on the monochrome day!

  1. This is an incredible example of “seeing”–such a small detail could easily be overlooked, but you capture such moments often. This is one of your most magical captures–thanks.
