One of the most special animals we saw in Alaska was a Canadian Lynx (Lynx canadensis). Special because, unlike the Grizzly Bears, I had not expected to see it. Special because it seemed such a part of the landscape and so not bothered by our presence (on the bus) a short distance away. It padded along—what a great term for a cat—knowing we were there, but clearly doing its own business. Then it was gone leaving me to marvel as to whether or not we’d really seen it.
