After flying over the glaciers yesterday, quite impressive in and of itself, we hiked up on them today. Wow! Ancient, massive, alive, humbling, fascinating, a scale beyond self. Honestly, seeing them is one of the greatest experiences of my life. I’d love everyone I know to have a similar opportunity.

Ah, you’ve touched on the wonder and awe that shaped John Muir, when he said, “To the lover of pure wildness Alaska is one of the most wonderful countries in the world.” Your entry sent me searching for more on the Muir Glacier, which he found in 1879. Muir himself is such a model for living a life filled with awe. Those of us more homebound rely on you and people like Muir to let our “mind’s eye” share your words and thoughts–thanks yet again.
Thanks so much, my friend, for keeping me connected to these amazing voices of the past. The Thoreau was your doing too, you know!
