Still Learning To See

Ah, Summer…

On a walk this week on part of the Cross Vermont Trail, once a section of the Montpelier & Wells River railroad, we enjoyed branching off to follow several streams. They still showed the dramatic effects of Hurricane Irene with stone and gravel and tree trunks piled high in many places. The water was swift and not completely clear but there were also no mosquitoes or black flies so who can complain! I look forward to going back to spend more time, especially on the lovely Naismith Brook. Ah, Summer!

A lovely spot where sun, water and deep shade create magic.

Gorgeous glacial boulders in the brook provided endless opportunities to see patterns and relationships.

A slight change of position and light and framing and it all becomes in interesting abstract.

LOVE your stream–water is one of my favorite paths into the heart of nature, and these shallow, bubbling brooks are so friendly. I used to sit in them until I’d get all wrinkly–so many tiny wonders float by! Watching a leaf floating on a brook like this could keep me mesmerized–thanks for reminding me.

  2. Wish you could come hang out in the water with us!
