Still Learning To See

Magic in the gardens

Several years ago Liz and I happened onto an exhibit of Dale Chihuly’s glass work set in the Kew Gardens. Thousand of pieces, huge and small, all inspired by the natural world, graced the gardens. I love the way his work draws on nature and, in some cases, almost seems to create new life forms! What an inspiration and a delight to see the magic he creates with light, form and color.

We were fortunate to see a smaller but still impressive installation of similar work several years later in Michigan at the Meijer Gardens. One of the most stunning pieces in Kew was a boatload of blown glass, shown here in several views.

A detail of the boat full of Chihuly glass work.

The reflections in the water only added to the magic, something I’m sure the artist planned for.

Yes, I loved seeing the Chihuly exhibit in Chicago at Garfield Park–the glass water lilies were enchanting. One of my favorite installations is his boathouse lap pool–can’t even imagine what it must be like to swim laps with those stunning works beneath you!

fabulous shots of his beautiful work! we were at the Tacoma Glass museum last January and saw some of his pieces there. Also, watched art glass being made. Strongly recommended as a place to visit.
