Still Learning To See

Getting close

Yesterday was, in part, another chapter in mastering some of the photographic equipment I have and the best techniques for using it. Lots of “mistakes” from which to learn.

In particular the macro lens and closeup rings I bought this winter were calling me. Good to just slow down and use a tripod and have to adjust everything with great intention. The results? I deleted most, after seeing what they could teach me! A few remained to enjoy.

Wild Ramp or Leek (Allium tricoccum), a stalwart of Spring woodlands, is not only delicious—potato-leek —but also beautiful, especially backlighted by the sun.

Fascinating also to look closely at the Spring Beauty (Claytonia virginica) bloom and see the stamens casting a shadow on the petals. What else don’t I see in the world?!

A closeup of the lovely bloom of Spring Beauty (Claytonia virginica). Seeing at this distance revealed the delicate shadows of the stamens on the petals. Imagine what seeing even more closely would be like!

What else don't I know? The name of this plant which I've seen for years but never bothered to learn more. How rude can I be to my early Spring guests?!
