I’ve not watched TV news for years but even my daily reading of several newspapers make it clear the world continues to overflow with self-destructive turmoil, leaving many with lives or horror. The fact that President Biden stepped aside to make room for a younger Vice President Harris caused me to imagine: what if we turned to five-year olds for guidance on how to manage our lives on Earth? We’d probably not be worse off and, potentially, life might be much better for many more of us.

The “laws” they live by? Here are a few I’ve observed being with young friends.
• Share. If for no other reason than what goes around comes around!
• Take care of each other. Ditto above on going and coming.

• Take naps. Humans have long known the value of a good nap, including they are a chance to disconnect from whatever was tiring us out in the first place and wake up refreshed.

• Learn. Life is immense and full, overflowing, in fact, with many amazing, interesting things we have not yet seen or done. And learning from each other is a great way to learn lots more even faster.

• Take time to be by ourselves, preferably on a walk. Doing “nothing” is essential to being more fully who we are.

• Enjoy playing. We can be anything we can imagine, every single one of us with no one left out.
• Don’t pee in the pool. You know!

• Laugh a lot. Laughing is great exercise and when we all look funny we laugh even more.
• Adults can be confusing. Let’s just follow our little hearts because often we adults have lost our way.

• Don’t fight and, when you do, make up and be friends again. Imagine what kids would do with all the resources we adults spend on weapons and other nonsense worldwide.

• Hug life. When you feel like you can’t, and we all have those days, find someone who will remind you with a hug and a snuggle, even if it is one of your stuffies or a favorite pet.

• Growing up. It will be OK—just remember what you learned as a kid about what is important in life.
I know a transition from where the headlines say we are today to a “younger” view of life is a stretch of imagining for many, but, honestly given such nonsense as Project 2025, what do we have to lose?!? This might be a great group of advisors to President Kamala Harris!
