Still Learning To See

Imagine a world…

jrsjr-09547

Though I do my best to see as much of this amazing world as possible, I know much of it goes unseen, every day. Even an hour in a gray, mostly rainy yesterday served to remind me of what is always right in front of me, and some of this I share here with you.

Imagine a world in which light, water, crystals of ice, seeds waiting, sounds of the river, and glorious snow abound. Even flowers of Witch Hazel blooming in the “dead” of winter and insects and, beneath the crust of snow, a subnivean world alive with life, and, of course, below that, soil teeming with more life than any of us can imagine.

Honestly, I cannot imagine a world just like this one!

As we move past the Winter Solstice and into the new calendar year, I will do what I can to be open to seeing more wherever I am.

  1. Thanks, John, for reminding us that winter is more than clearing cars, driveways and another cancellation!! Your last pic will be a screen saver; very Van Gogh-like (my favorite artist.) Happy Christmas and the joy of the New Year to you and family!

Thank you for reminding me to “stop and smell the roses” in this case stop and see the beauty in the ice all around me.

  3. Hi John, You give us so much by sharing through your art the wonder of the world around you.Thank you! Only one thing would be better: to go exploring camera in hand with you up in Vermont. I do miss it so.
Wishing you and your family a happy Christmas tide.Your star island friend, Holly Hall

John, You inspired me to get outside with my camera. No great photos, but enjoyed the hunt.
