One in three people who come to Denali see “the mountain.” Very few see it without any clouds as we did yesterday. Today was (again!) one of the best days of my life hiking across the long plain in yesterday’s post with not another soul in sight, making photographs of astounding Arctic wildflowers—all with Denali in full view for a second day in a row.
One of the amazing things about Denali is how often it changes, both with the light and the clouds. This is only part of what we saw:





Ah, John–you certainly share the vision of the other John (Muir) when he said: “Society speaks and all men listen, mountains speak and wise men listen.” Especially in this election campaign, we are surrounded by “society” speaking constantly–how wonderful that YOU are in the presence of Denali, hearing its message with your usual wisdom.
