Still Learning To See

Ferns

Last Tuesday I wrote about how I’d dug up all the ferns I was so fond of photographing. The next day, on a hike to Chickering Bog, I found a number of varieties of ferns, all lusciously new and green. I did not have the time to adequately photograph them but certainly did enjoy seeing them regardless.

More than 50 varieties of ferns are found in Vermont so I have plenty left to see and photograph! Ferns are another good example of how easy it is to simply pass by without really seeing, and what a loss that is.

Interrupted Fern (Osmunda claytoniana)

Maidenhair Fern (Adiantum aleuticum)

Cinnamon Fern (Osmundastrum cinnamomeum). Interestingly this fern has been on Earth for more than 75 million years.
