Still Learning To See

Remembering

Around the time Liz and I were married 40 years ago, hundreds of Pink Lady Slipper (Cypripedium acaule)flowers bloomed in the woods around our house. When I saw this one blooming earlier in the week, near Chickering Bog, I smiled remembering that wonderful day long ago. The flower is still amazing. So is being married to Liz.

    Nice.

  2. One of my all-time favorite flowers!

  3. Adam and I gave my mother a lady slipper (the shop owner said it was a zygopedalium, but my experience tells it’s a paphiopedilum) for mother’s day maybe 5 years ago. Every year, two blooms come up, together, 2-4 times a year. Deep purple, fuzzy, and beautiful. She sketches their progress in a daily log, noting new growth. It is very symbolic of how we weave in and out of their lives in Montpelier, yet they always take care of us and help us thrive and bloom, even when we don’t look so hot.

I love your website. It makes me think of good things. Thanks.
