I’m often aware that one of the first steps to “seeing” is looking—up, down and around. How often I catch myself having not even looked at anything—except oblivion!—for several minutes. To see I need to look first.
The flowers of a tree, I don’t remember which, had just fallen when I looked down and noticed the magic combination of sun, shadow, 3-d shape and green color on a London sidewalk. I love the unwillingness of any of it to fit neatly into the framing.
