It must be the sun today. Even though it is cold and there are still many patches of snow on the ground, the sun is delightfully intense this morning. The Red Wing Blackbirds (Agelaius phoeniceus) singing from a tree top know it. The Crocus and Daffodils beginning to peek up in warm spots know it. It is the kind of morning I can sit in a sunny corner and, why not, just let my mind go.
It must be for all these reasons I was thinking of Culebra this morning. Liz and I have had some fine times there with our good friend Sally and her lovely sisters, usually in January or February when my dried-out old skin really needs the sun and warm water and my soul needs the joy of being with friends.
The island is also a paradise for me as a photographer, as can be seen in these select few images:

Few things are finer than wiling away several hours on one's back under a palm enjoying the ever changing compositions of the leaves and blue sky.

Another variation on the theme of sky and palm leaf with sun and shadows introducing amazing textures.

The colors people use for their houses on Culebra, like many places in the Caribbean, come from those in nature.

The sign on the push cart of the "Barefoot Contessa," who sells inexpensive hand-made art, pretty much says it all regarding priorities on the island!
Oh John, you make me smile and enjoy the sunshine this morning even more:-) I was just chatting with Sally yesterday about my upcoming trip to Culebra, where I will smile again passing by the “some days open, some days not” cart you pictured so well.
